this is the only book I've found that deals with the very specific niche of what to do AFTER a temporary mission trip. A must-read for anyone in or thinking about joining the mission field.
This book is a little bit cheesy sometimes, but at other times the author is reading my mind. You have to do the reflections in order to get the full book experience, in writing the reflections I often found the correct way to describe the emotions that I was still processing. Great read for those that have just come back from a cross-cultural service experience!
Our church plans to use many of these ideas and materials in the debriefing of our short-term mission teams, an area that is very difficult to do well.
Excellent question at the end of each section. I wish I had read it before taking my mission trip.
Dr. Green offers abundant field experience and a first-hand view of the experiences of others as they pursue mission work -- and he addresses the "elephant in the middle of the room" -- how to consciously make the effect of the work last, offer more permanent growth and benefit. Well worth reading.
Excellent resource to help someone process an extended mission trip/internship.
I attended a workshop by Dr. Green, who suggested taking a week to read/process each chapter, so you're not rushing the debriefing process.
