Silver Falchion Award Finalist!

On the front lines, where battles are waged and fates decided, two counterterrorism operatives learn they have a lot to fight for—and even more to lose.

Phantom Force Tactical’s Nicholas “Colt” Colton thought the radical extremist he captured years ago was locked away for good. Unfortunately, a new classified mission reveals that the threat is still very real, and corruption within the U.S. government runs deep.

Task Force 2 agent Josephine “Joey” Summers has been working her own angle, trying to figure out where the terrorist leader will strike next. She’s come up with a very plausible—and terrifying—theory, but doesn’t know who she can trust. After teaming up with a retired Navy SEAL, she discovers the plot is even bigger than she’d imagined—and the consequences much more alarming.

When the stakes are this high, promises must be kept. And when thousands of people could die, sacrifices must be made. Only by letting go of their pasts will they have any hope of stopping the chaos. But courage and commitment—plus a pledge—fuse to create an outcome that is both unpredictable and unimaginable.

All books in this series can stand alone.

Excerpt
Colt looked through the scope of his rifle and blinked away the sweat dripping into his eyes. The man in his ear was ordering him to pull the trigger, while the voice in his head was screaming not to. He knew his partner Josephine “Joey” Summers was in that vehicle, but so were a handful of really bad guys who were getting ready to do a lot of bad things to a large number of innocent people.
Seconds ticked by. The voice in his ear warned him that time was running out.
He had to kill so that others would live.
Taking a deep breath, Colt applied a little pressure to the trigger, and lined up the driver’s head in his sights. He knew it probably didn’t matter where the bullet hit. The vehicle was full of explosives and was going to blow sky-high.

Colt released his breath slowly as the vehicle came closer, and did what he’d promised he’d do.

He pulled the trigger.

Front Line is written in Adult English, but with only a few f-words that are uttered by characters who might seem a bit off-kilter (to me) if they used other words in such circumstances. If this were a film it would probably be rated PG 13. There is some violence and romance, but not graphic.

The Highlights

This is billed as military, terrorism, suspense. It probably is better classified as Action-Adventure,Crime Fiction, with a hint of romance. Possibly that is the secret to this writer's success.

She is adept at developing suspense and intrigue, creating characters that feel authentic.

I read this very soon after reading the second novel in this trilogy, and enjoyed it as much.

I only hope the author will write another series featuring this couple. Indeed, I believe it an error to stop at three. Why commit to a conclusion, when such a series as this can go on forever and ever. Let us see how these two do AFTER having kids and so forth.

Okay, that last thought may appear random, but what I'd like to do with these two is watch them grow and emerge from dark days, when even they must face their own mortality, or question their faithin themselves and all that they hold dear.

This writer has the skill and craftsmanship to accomplish such a task. She just has to decide to do it. Until then, she risks squandering a great talent.

Bottom Line

I hope there is more forthcoming with these two heroes.

Four stars out of five.

Front Line A Phantom Force Tactical Novel Phantom Force Tactical Book 3 edition by Jessica James Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Jessica James will quickly win a spot in your book of authors to keep an eye on when you check out this book or any of her others. Her novel is well written with a solid plot that will make you feel as if you’re taking part in the novel. You won’t be disappointed when you start on page one and barrel through all of the rest.
There’s a lot of great action and crime elements in this novel, which will appeal to a wide audience, not just those looking for a story about war. You will also get a bit of romance too, which adds a perfect edge to the story so it’s not completely action.
You can tell, the author puts a lot of work into her novels. The voice is incredible and the novel is well edited and cared for. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for something to get into when they don’t have weekend plans, because you won’t want to put it down.
This gripping third installment of the Phantom Force Tactical series by Jessica James kept me in suspense the whole way through. The series follows members of a private anti-terrorism company made up of former Navy SEALS whose mission is to prevent terror in the private sector.. This installment centers around Nick "Colt" Colton and Josephine "Joey" Summers, who cross paths as they try to prevent the explosion of a dirty bomb in Washington, D.C. The tale starts off with a bang as Colt sets off for an appointment in a semi-abandoned building, when Joey steps into an elevator with him, as shots ring out below. The plot involves high level members of Homeland Security, drug cartels, kidnapping, murder, and smuggling. I enjoy the characters and how their stories intermingle with the previous books in the series. Ms. James' writing style appeals to me in the way she develops the characters and makes me care about them. She combines heroic deeds with multi-dimensional characters, incorporates romance into the mix, and a satisfying ending that leaves the reader wanting more. Highly recommended.
Front Line (Military Suspense Thriller) SEAL Counterterrorism Operators Phantom Force Tactical Book 3 is the follow up entry in this great series by Jessica James. The books follow a group of former Navy Seals who now work for a private anti-terrorism firm who fight terrorism in the private sector. The book starts off with a great scene, with Nick "Colt" Colton and Josephine "Joey" Summers crossing paths, when both are on an elevator, and shots ring out. There is a lot going on in the plot of this book with the office of Homeland Security, drug cartels, murder and so on. Even a little slow burn romance is thrown in for good measure. It is apparent that James has done her research well, as the story progresses nicely, capturing intense action and suspense along with a subtle romantic vibe as well. Very real, well described characters populate this story and give a sense of reality to this story line. A compelling, action-packed novel that will continue to entertain until the satisfying ending.
I am huge fan of Jessica James and this latest title did not disappoint. A real page turner, a suspense thriller with a little romance, I finished the book in less than a day. I believe I have read most, if not all, of her other books, and as with her other works, Jessica is not only an engaging writer, but as evidenced in all her books, she obviously does her research which results in very credible plots and story lines. Her main characters are always very well developed. My favorite titles are probably Meant To Be and Above and Beyond, but I have thoroughly enjoyed all that I have read. Although this book is the third in the series, I believe that it could be read as a stand-alone, but I strongly recommend that you all three, they are that good. One of the things I enjoy about series books is the opportunity to read more about the characters developed in previous titles. I was also fascinated, perhaps because of my interest in genealogy, that the author connected the home (Hawthorne) and family of one of the main characters (Blake) in this contemporary series with that of a main character (Alexander) in Shades of Gray and Noble Cause.
